... that was one of the statements i made in the 'sex and bgr interrogation' mentioned in the previous post.
last night The Wife and i were discussing it, and we are concerned that some of the youth may have misunderstood that statement... hence today's blog post.
what i DO NOT mean by that statement: sex is boring and unfulfilling. what i ABSOLUTELY do NOT mean by that statement: either The Wife or I are unattractive to each other, undersexed, or frigid. please note the NEGATIVES in the sentences above! =)
sex is great. it's funtastic. it's a beautiful, pleasurable, exciting gift that God has given us!
so, what do i mean when i say that sex is overrated?
the world around us tells us that sex is EVERYTHING. it says you're a Loser if you haven't had sex. it says that relationships are All About Sex. turn on the Radio, you hear songs about sex (my humps, anyone?). turn on MTV, u see 'artistes' almost literally prostituting themselves on screen. watch any Movie, and somehow the hero and heroine end up in bed together. (if i'm not mistaken, most movies nowadays have at least one or two nude scenes too... but we're spared that by the wonderful Malaysian Censorship Board. at least they do something right, once in a while.) look at Advertisements, they use sex to sell everything from chewing gum to cars. get onto the LRT, and you'll see girls with skirts so short that it looks like they're wearing an unusually thick belt. take a look at women's mags and men's mags in most bookstands, and you'll find articles like 'how to charm your way into his/her pants". we are INUNDATED and OVERWHELMED with millions or messages about sex everyday, saying: SEX!!! U MUST HAVE IT!!! IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT!!! DON'T MISS OUT!!!
and they are all LIES!!!
sure, sex is great. pure and wonderful, a gift from God. but dagnabit, it's not all that! trust the words of someone who's had it: it's no big deal. the World worships sex because it doesn't realise that they're supposed to worship the One who thought the concept up and designed the various relevant body parts, with their nerves and curves. don't make that mistake - don't overrate sex.

totally agree wit u SJ. tat hits the spot.
mmm..
qn: whats wrong if sex is overrated?
its one of the more harmless ways to well, have fun. (compared to drugs and such.)
well, sex being overrated means that it's not seen realistically - it's overblown, magnified beyond proportion, seen as the pinnacle of pleasure, the best thing in the world.
which basically isn't true.
and i kinda like myself and others to have a perspective of reality that corresponds to the truth.
of course, we can then get into a long, involved argument about what truth is and if truth really exists in the absolute sense... if you want =)
lol. so is there anything more pleasurable than sex? *grin*
haha... that's a difficult question to answer actually. it's abit like comparing apples and oranges. other kinds of pleasure may be just as enjoyable, but in different ways! and this kind of comparison is also very subjective. one man's meat is another man's poison.
but yeah, the overrated-ness of sex sometimes means people don't appreciate all the good things they have and can enjoy because they're hankering after 'the good stuff', which is what they think sex is. so i say, kick back and relax man, there's a whole lot more to life than S-E-X.
Yeah, there are many more things more pleasurable than sex like having a good and meaningful conversation with a friend, doing an enjoyable hobby together, etc. Those things are more fulfilling holistically..at least from my experience. Sex is great but not the only thing than can bring pleasure or fulfillment in a person=)
I see you guys have figured it out!! :P
Liquorice: thanks! you have my wholehearted agreement =)
irene: *acts blur* figured what out?
heheh well, it's a process... we're getting somewhere la =)
Liquorice : more fulfilling holistically. mm. okay, ill take your word for it (can't do anything else, not enough experience to argue)
siehjin : oh okay. gotcha. =D
Hi eve,
I really do not know you but I would like to share with you that sex 'outside the bounds of marriage' is probably as harmful than drugs and such, if not more so(!).. because sex without commitment violates the girl (as she searches to fill a void/great need for intimacy-- where without the protection of marriage vows, she is left shattered, losing bits and pieces of self-worth) and serves to gratify the lusts of the male! Think about it... why else would a guy demand for sex without commitment... if he is not willing to commit to you.. is not his declared 'love' for you really lust? If he really 'loved' you... there will be no hesitation about commitment. He will wait for you, and honor you enough to wait (to have sex with you) as such.
Hope that helps.
Sieh Jin: I was studying (or the pastor taught) about how beautiful the act of love-making in the bed of lovers, who were under marriage vows, was in the eyes of God. It is the ultimate portrayal of God's Love for us, in its purest form! Interesting isn't it? And the devil hates it... because everytime a married couple express their love for one another through sex, it kills/ breaks/destroys strongholds in the spiritual realm... hehe, you should do more research on it and tell it to me kayz!
God Bless, and Enjoy! ;)
steph:
wasnt planning on having sex before marriage anyhow, its just too risky. even with contraceptives.
at least with marriage the guy is obliged to help care for the child (if there is one..)
well......
from a proud virgin.....i can live without it till i get married.....
if i do get married!!!i'm 21 and still never had a girlfriend!!! waaaahhhhh!!!!!
yes, the world advertises sex, because they see how wonderful it is, but they pervert it by using it in the wrong context, just as a preacher that misinterpretes the Word consistently and knowingly is called a false teacher
as someone who reads these magazines regularly (men's health, fhm, newman etc) most of the points are only valid if the people involved are of the world and even then, mostly nonsense.
they are just putting them there to sell the magazine to poor, sad people who haven't found true meaning in their lives....
people who are feeling empty and are looking to fill that void with sex, love, and feeling important, wanted...
that same empty feeling that everyone feels sometime, when we're most vulnerable, but that we can fill with god, while the world looks to fill with sex, money, material goods, alcohol, and drugs
and yet when its all over, they find that the emptiness remains....
Joshua: I'm 29 and never had a boyfriend. Heheheh :P
and i was 22 and never had a girlfriend before i met The Wife... she also same case, she was 22 and never had a boyfriend =)
and just so u know, in her case it wasn't that she didn't have any chances... just that others' campaigns were unsuccessful. =) as for my case, no comment! =P
wooohoooo i'm not alone!!!!!yay!
Haha, well done, Jin!
